A record 2700 tons of recycling was collected in 2011. This represents an over 40% increase since the City switched to the single stream collection method in mid 2010. Here’s a breakdown of the environmental benefits:
17,804,746 gallons of water saved
13, 532, 796 kWh of energy saved
7828 metric tons carbon dioxide equivalent GHG emissions saved
40,935 trees saved
304,817 pounds of natural resources, such as sand, soda ash and limestone saved
435,965 tons of bauxite and iron ore saved
1,102,711 gallons of gasoline saved

Welcome to Capital Area Recycling & Trash (CART). We offer City of Lansing residents convenient, weekly curbside collections for recycling, refuse, and yard waste . All materials are collected on the same day! Bulk item pick up is also available. A variety of educational resources are also offered to the Lansing community. Please contact the CART hotline at 483-4400 with any questions, comments or concerns.
Our mission is to provide an efficient recycling, yard waste and refuse collection system which encourages environmentally responsible behavior learned through consistent outreach efforts, as well as continuous, community-based educational activities, all of which contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment and enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in the city of Lansing.
