Your Lansing Park Millage Fund provides much needed dollars to keep our park system well maintained and safe for all users. For Fiscal Year (FY) 2008, $1.2 million dollars has been allocated for capital improvements for our parks. Below is a listing and brief description of the FY 2008 projects.
Bleacher Replacement - $80,000

Our existing bleacher seating at Marshall Park (pictured above) must be replaced because it no longer meets regulatory codes such as the Americans with Disabilities Act or the American Standards of Testing Materials specifications. This funding will allow for the purchase of new bleachers and a cement pad for them to set on.
City-Wide Repair and Maintenance - $100,000

These funds are utilized to provide unanticipated or emergency repair and other maintenance needs within the park system. Pictured above is the badly worn Mt. Hope Cemetery Fence. Funding from this fund and private funding will provide a new fence this year.
River Trail Repair and Maintenance - $128,000

These funds provide for ongoing maintenance of the Lansing River Trail. Examples include both asphalt and boardwalk repairs, especially the boardwalk section downtown and at the General Motors plant. We will focus this year on boardwalk repairs at Trager Park.
Playground Renovations - $92,000

This year, the department will focus on renovating Barb Dean and Letts Park playgrounds. Letts & Barb Dean Playgrounds as they currently exist pictured above.
Playground Renovations - $140,000

These funds will provide for the renovation of the following playgrounds; Bassett, Graves, Hull Court, Ormand and Wainwright. Pictured above is Averill Park which has the last existing wood play structure in the Lansing Park system. This structure will be removed and replaced with new playground equipment in August 2007.
Foster Park Restroom - $100,000

The Foster Park Restroom (pictured above) provides storage space for the Lansing Garden Club as well as restroom facilities. This renovation will provide better storage areas and access to the restrooms from outside.
St. Joe Park Restroom - $50,000

The St. Joe Park Restroom also provides storage and meeting space for Lansing's community-based neighborhood football program. This renovation will improve these areas as well as provide newer handicapped accessible restrooms.
Moores Park Site Renovations - $50,000

Moores Park will be celebrating it's 100 year as a park in 2008 and the Moores Park Neighborhood Association is requesting repairs be done on the pool staircase, entrance pillars, enhance stone steps near the park sign and a "Labyrinth Meditation Walk" be installed in the park.
Ranney Tower Restoration - $150,000

This funding will be used to renovate the existing Scorer's Tower in Ranney Park.
Frances Garden Renovations - $30,000

This project seeks to hire a firm to provide for the master planning of Frances Park's formal garden areas. Once the plan is completed, any balance will be used for implementing the plan.
Gier Gym Expansion - $200,000

Expansion of the gym at Gier Community Center will include increased gym floor space and bleacher seating for spectators.
