Salary: $34,611 - $46,051 /yr

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The person selected to fill this position will be required, as a condition of employment, to participate in a Hepatitis B inoculation program at the City's expense. This position requires that the applicants be able to be bonded under terms of the City's blanket bond. Therefore applicants cannot have committed any dishonest acts before or after placement in this position. Applicants must authorize release of any information from appropriate agencies regarding the applicants criminal history. You must present proof that you have passed (30 wpm and 80% accuracy) the data entry test given by the Capitol Area Michigan Works Office. The data entry test must accompany the City of Lansing job application for this position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED and certification from the Corrections Officer Vocational Program or the County and Local Detention Officer program requiring a minimum of 23 term or 15 semester credits approved by the Corrections Commission and the State Civil Service Commission or an Associate's Degree in any related field. A degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement is preferred but is not required. Applicants must pass the data entry test given by the Capital Area Michigan Works Office (passing is 30 wpm and 80% accuracy). Submit the data entry results along with the completed City of Lansing Employment Application by August 6, 2010.
9-1-1 Emergency Communications Technician I
Salary: $33,509 - $44,470/yr

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: MUST COMPLETE THE DATA ENTRY TEST GIVEN BY CAPITOL AREA MICHIGAN WORKS WITH 35 WPM PROFICIENCY AND 90% ACCURACY. PASSING SCORE IS BASED ON RECORDED AVERAGE SPEED AND ACCURACY ONLY. DATA ENTRY RESULTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH CITY OF LANSING JOB APPLICATION TO BE FURTHER QUALIFIED FOR THIS POSITION.
APPLICANTS ARE SUBJECT TO A COMPLETE LANSING POLICE DEPARTMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION DURING THE HIRING PROCESS, ALONG WITH A CREDIT AND CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD CHECK. MUST NOT HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF ANY FELONY CHARGES.
WILL BE EXPECTED TO WORK DIFFERENT SHIFTS, TO INCLUDE WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS. THESE SHIFTS PERTAIN TO A 24 HOUR/ 7 DAY 365 DAYS PER YEAR SCHEDULE.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED and at least two (2) years of college level coursework in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, or Emergency Medical Services, or two (2) years experience working in a 911 Communications Center or in a high volume customer service center environment. Seeking candidates experienced in call taking techniques, stress management, criminal law and crisis intervention. Also seeking candidates with prior military experience. Must pass each phase of testing, to include a spelling test, an extensive video comprehension, multi-situational test, and oral interview to advance to the hiring phase of the selection process.
