Robinson A'Lynne Robinson
  Third Ward Councilmember

Born and raised on Lansing's South West side, A'Lynne, then Boles, now Robinson, has a great appreciation for her parents' choice to raise their family in a city as wonderful as Lansing.  She is proud to be a fourth generation resident of Lansing, Michigan; the oldest child of John and Diedra Boles.  When it came time for A'Lynne and her husband, Earl, to select a city to raise their family in, they happily selected Lansing as well.

A'Lynne attended Lansing Public Schools; graduating from Everett High School in 1987.  She went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Women Studies and African American Studies from the University of Michigan and later completed her Master's course work in Management Administration at Metropolitan State University.

Robinson's resume is full of both community and public service in two Midwestern states.  She has volunteered with community canned food drives, Junior Achievement, and has been a "Walk-For-A-Cure" team coordinator - American Diabetes Association, Ingham County Equal Opportunity Commission, and has served on her neighborhood associations' Executive Board here in Lansing.  While living in Minnesota for almost a decade, she also rolled up her sleeves and got involved.  A'Lynne planned and spoke at several state wide events; Pan African and Conquering the Rainbow Conferences.  Thanksgiving food drives, and "Each-One-Reach-One" mentoring program, Plymouth Christian Youth Center student workshops, an Economic Development Corporation for which she served on the Executive Board as Vice President, Governor Arne Carlson's Commission on Black Minnesotans, and students in a Minneapolis America Reads program all benefited from the contributions of A'Lynne.

Robinson is known to say, "There is no better way to give back to a community than to serve."

This dynamic, well versed young woman has received numerous awards and accolades for her efforts.  A'Lynne was awarded an exceptional quality and productivity award from her supervisor.  She was given a commendation from the Governor of the State of Minnesota for her work on the State Wide MLK Holiday Celebration.  A'Lynne has earned awards for her outstanding contributions to the  NCAA's National Youth Summer Program, Mentoring Programs and for her student leadership at her alma mater.

Needless to say, choosing to run for Lansing City Council to represent the Third Ward was a natural progression of A'Lynne's life-long commitment to serving the community where she lives.  As a Council member, Robinson has committed to work with the residents in the Third Ward to address the pressing issues that community members face.  As an open-minded and independent thinking individual she seeks to build a bright future for the Third Ward by putting her ward's best interest first.

A'Lynne Robinson serves on the following Committees and Boards:

Committee on Intergovernmental Relations    Tri-County Regional Planning
     Committee on Public Safety                           Commission
